Great recipe from Slovak grandmothers – Baked buns
Fantastic and simple recipe for soft, fluffy baked buns. The taste of the buns depends on the filling. You can choose jam (Plum jam is Slovak grandmother’s favorite) or farmer’s cheese with raisins or poppy seeds.
- 500ml milk
- 4 tablespoons of sugar
- 1 pack of yeast
- 8 cups of flour
- 2 tea spoons of salt
- 1 egg
- 1dl oil
- thick jam / farmer’s cheese with raisins / poppy seeds
- powdered sugar
Steps: LEAVENED DOUGH start by combining milk, sugar and yeast. Whisk the yeast well and set it aside covered for a few minutes. Whisking is important since it aerates the mixture and makes the yeast more active. For this reason you also need to place the yeast in a warm place. To make the dough, poor flour into a large pot and add salt, egg and oil as well as the yeast mixture once it has risen (after about 10-15 minutes). Work the dough with your hands until it no longer sticks to the pot. Form the dough into a bun. Then cover the pot and set aside to let rise in a warm place for an hour or two.
Form the buns and fill them with jam or cheese or poppy seeds. Place them on a greased baking pan. Brush on more oil on top.
Bake in a preheated oven for about 20 minutes (190°C, about 374°F). Finally, sprinkle with powdered sugar. Enjoy the great taste and smell! Yummy! 🙂
